The SmartCapital Project Background
Through the Smart Communities Demonstration Program (SCDP),
more than $13 million, including $9.5 million of direct and
in-kind contributions by SmartCapital’s local partners
and $4.5 million in cash support from Industry Canada, was
committed over three years towards Ottawa's SmartCapital initiative.
Deliverables include 12 online services, an international
showcase and a gateway site.
In two short years, SmartCapital established Ottawa as a
model for the provision of online public services to large
metropolitan environments.
It brought together over 90 institutions, companies and community
groups in the Ottawa region to launch online services and
establish a world class showcase site. These online services
were delivered on time, on budget and, in several cases, exceeded
the expected results.
These services touch virtually every citizen in the community
and transform the way they interact with one another, with
public and private institutions, and with the world.
The SmartCapital project, with the deliverables now complete,
was an unqualified success. There are currently twenty subprojects
operating under the SmartCapital umbrella (eight more than
originally covered under the SCDP) involving more than fifty
contributing and supporting partners. |
