About the OCRI Life Sciences Achievement Awards

The OCRI Life Sciences Achievement Awards, originally established by the Ottawa Life Sciences Council in 1994, were developed to recognize those individuals who have made significant contributions to Ottawa's emerging life sciences sector. Since the program’s inception, 66 outstanding individuals and organizations have been honoured by their peers. They include the “who's who” of Ottawa's R&D and business community.

OCRI Life Sciences is dedicated to providing the services needed to grow and support the life sciences community in Ottawa and Eastern Ontario.

With a solid base of companies in the Life Science and Cleantech sectors, two major universities (Carleton University and the University of Ottawa), the National Research Council, over 40 research institutes/centres and some of Canada’s leading service providers, Ottawa is a thriving R&D, clinical research and manufacturing centre. In addition, Eastern Ontario’s rural communities offer excellent greenfield locations for manufacturing, integrated biomass conversion and agricultural technologies.

Ottawa's life sciences sector is a broad field of endeavor encompassing biotechnology, environmental science, medical technology, clean energy and health care. Ottawa-area researchers and companies are delivering on the promise of technology and business opportunities and are meeting head-on the challenges of competing in a globally competitive environment.

Harnessing that potential to produce the best results requires vision, persistence, and hard work. Individuals who make a substantial contribution to the field deserve to be honoured. The OCRI Life Sciences Achievement Awards program honours Ottawa's best.
