Innovation Leadership Team

Document: Economic Strategy – Steering Committee (2010 – PDF 6.3 MB)

In response to the shifting demographics of our knowledge-based community, an innovation strategy working group was formed in mid-2009 to assess the current state of the region.

The mandate of a formalized group, The Innovation Leadership Team, is to stimulate and champion innovation, enable acceleration of innovation through alliances, attract talent to Ottawa, attract sufficient capital for local companies, provide metrics and celebrate innovation in Ottawa.

The focus for the Innovation Leadership Team includes: investment attraction (seed, venture and growth capital from all sources); marketing Ottawa to the world; talent development; ecosystem development; and, cluster development. The team is comprised of representatives from economic development agencies, academic institutions, research institutions, municipal government, mature and emerging clusters as well as youth programs.

The intention of this collaborative, cooperative leadership team is to develop an innovation network for the region based on being inclusive and networked to create a world-class environment that operates with global best-practices.

The outcome and impact of the leadership team will be measured in terms of increased jobs for knowledge-based talent, a more productive and innovative environment, more competitive companies, increased investment and ultimately wealth creation in the region.
