A total of 34 finalists will be vying for trophies in 11 categories at the 2010 OCRI Awards to be held at the Hilton Lac Leamy on Thursday.
The ceremony, put on annually by the Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation (OCRI), honours the best technology talent that the Ottawa region has to offer.
A total of 86 entries were received by OCRI.
Here are the awards categories and the finalists:
Technology Company of the Year: Kinaxis; DragonWave Inc.; and Pronexus Inc.
Next Generation Executive of the Year: Scott Lake, SWIX; Susan Robbins-Parsons, International Datacasting Corp.; Jason Flick, You i Labs Inc.
Strategic Partnership: Algonquin College and Amika Mobile; QNX Software Systems and Alcatel-Lucent; and Ensyn and Honeywell.
Most Promising Startup: eSight Corp.; Telepin Software; and Vayyoo Inc.
Product of the Year: Neptec Design Group Ltd.; Seprotech Systems Inc.; and DragonWave.
Service of the Year: UBM TechInsights; Design 1st Inc.; and TechEdge.
Best Researcher: A new award, finalists are Benjamin Tsang, Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI); Robert Korneluk, the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute; Duncan Stewart, OHRI; and Banu Ormeci from the department of civil and environmental engineering at Carleton University.
Health Innovation: Pierre Cardinal of CRI Critical Care Education; Tofy Mussivand the medical devices chair at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute; and Rick Davies, also with the Heart Institute.
Student Researcher: Yanina Shevchenko from Carleton University; Honglei Guo from the University of Ottawa; Razib Iqbal, also from the University of Ottawa.
Student Entrepreneur: Jennifer Sarumi, Carleton; Mohammad Arsalan and Atif Shamim, also of Carleton; and Dium Solutions, a company formed by students at the University of Ottawa.
High School Innovation: Holy Trinity Catholic High School; Immaculata High School; and John McCrae Secondary School.
Fastest Growing Bootstrap Startup: Telepin Software; MacGregor Media; Runamok Party Rentals; MediaMiser Ltd.; Business Services ETC.; Shopify; and Unique Auction.
